Sumie Garcia

(b 1986Mexico. Lives and works in Mexico City)

García's artistic and cinematic practices are deeply rooted in her fascination with time and memory. Through photography and her process of what she calls ‘image-intervention’, her exploration expands to include connections to landscape. These landscapes tend to contain visible flaws and distortion that aim to undermine and interfering with the way the viewer might interpret the imagery.

Through embroidery, folds and pins, García expands the photograph’s capacity to express what is beyond the image while playing around with ways of looking and perceiving.
