Working across painting, photography, film and printmaking, Harland is interested in the abject, the uncontrollable, and the things we want to contain. Her style is one of exploration and extrication. Her black-and-white portraits and expressionistic landscape paintings intentionally convey layers of manipulation. Her work emphasises shifting states and ambiguity to delve into our paradoxical relationship with nature and the unknown. Her enigmatic oil paintings demonstrate an atmospheric and almost haunting junction between colour and texture, resulting in scenes of alluring mystery.
