Powell’s work reflects our personal and collective unconscious. Using her background in psychology, as well as myths and metaphors, she creates sculptural works that attempt to show the unseen parts of our psyche.
The materials and processes she uses reflect her research into alchemy, saying: “Alchemy serves as a metaphorical representation for the process of transformation of the self that Jung called individuation – a journey that re-establishes a connection between the conscious and unconscious.”
