Inspired by inherited memories, Fitzmaurice deconstructs and re-imagines the narratives of others. He is drawn to depicting figures that are somehow at odds with their environment or each other, caught in a dramatic entanglement. In his youth he absorbed religious and mythological stories, resulting in his keen interest in blending stories of Gods and demons.
In his recent work, figures seem to emerge or retreat from their surroundings with their entrances and exits, achieved through the intersection of strange morphologies that shift with every reading.
