Alimi blends bands of colour, development of his work through gradation and play. Operating within the framework of painterly abstraction, he subtly manipulates tone and colour. His paintings are what he calls “self-reflexive” and employ an approach ‘thinking through doing’.
“Too dad; can’t tell is a series of drawings investigating the traumatic relationship between father and child as it is mirrored through the various parts of my drawing practice. Inspired by 1970-1 Bas Jan Ader piece I’m too sad to tell you, the series fluctuates between the articulate representation of multiple visual fragments and a constant stutter that prevents the actual image/significance from settling.”
