A playful approach characterizes the recent drawings of Dominic Kennedy, allowing the work to arrive somewhere unexpected. As the work unfolds, a sense of time is made apparent with the initial searching stages of the drawing revealed. Each work is made on a specific sheet of coloured paper or card which is an integral part of the image. Often many areas are left untouched, giving the work an unfinished quality and preserving the spontaneity of the image.
Kennedy seeks out patterns and fragments of form and, whilst initially appearing abstract, they often hint at heads, suns, plants and other recognizable forms that emerge out of the web of marks.
