Favourite work?
I like Ed Young’s work, particularly ‘Random Shit’.
I’ve liked some of his work in the past and I love the weight of these otherwise simple words. I believe strongly that art should be accessible and I am aligned with Art Gazette's mission to do this.
If you weren't an artist, what would you be?
Lawyer or I may have tried drag.
What item in your studio could you not live without?
My camera
What do you listen to while working?
Super mushy music, anything that makes me "feel".
Somewhere in Lagos. It has huge windows (lots of natural light). Lots of glass and steel.
Describe your work:
The works acquired are from a series called EHN. The word "ehn" is a simple Nigerian expression that carries a multitude of meanings depending on intonation, ‘ehn’ contains several dimensions that are not immediately obvious in its three letters. The complexity of this word is mirrored in the complexity of our Nigerian culture today.
I’ve interpreted one version of “Ehn?” as an open-ended question, which simply means "what?".
