Describe your work:
All of the works acquired have been created during lockdown. They document objects around me and feelings or things that have happened during the time I made them. Some of them are sketches for future sculptures and others just play around with colour.
Why do you choose to work with Art Gazette?
I am a massive fan of the variety of work they collect + they have artists from all over the world so I have discovered many new ones through them. I also appreciate their desire to support emerging artists, which is really rare these days.
List your top 3 favourite emerging artists:
Jo Kitchen, Lisette van Hoogenhuyze, Tom Cardwell, Louis Judkins, Winnie Hall and Daria Neretina (sorry it is hard to just pick 3!)
What artist's work do you admire?
I love Peter Evans scratch card paintings, ‘cloud 9’ I went to his PV last year at Oliver Spencer where he showcased them and they are just amazing. We also went to uni together so it has been a real pleasure to see his practice evolve.
If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?
I don’t think just because you are ‘an artist’ that is all you have to be, I think it is important to have different interests and jobs in your life. I aspire to be a Premier League Football Manager which I am doing alongside my practice.
Describe a piece of artwork in your house.
I have a A5 Alice Lancaster drawing hung in my house, it is a foot in a bidet. Really simple yet elegant.
Describe your dream studio:
Barbara Hepworth St Ives studio/gallery is dreamy but I am also a big fan of Russian painter Yuri Kupers barn house in Normandy.
What do you listen to while working?
Oh it varies on what mood I am in, I sometimes play it safe with a Spotify discover weekly or will listen to a podcast like My Favourite Murder or Talk Art with Russell Tovey and Robert Diament.
