Collection: Olivia Bax

(b 1988, United Kingdom. Lives and works in London)

Olivia Bax's sculptures are often characterised by familiar elements such as a hook; handle or vessel presented in unconventional; coloured forms. But more than the subject itself; it's the texture of the surface that offers the viewer the most immediate insight. Bax makes her own paper pulp to cover and form a mantle-like skin over linear armatures; moulding each sculpture in this way to create distinctive textures and mass. Rooted in drawing; her work uses instinctive action-based gestures as its core mode of expression.
