Fanie Buys

Although Fanie Buys paints many subjects; his practice is centered around figurative oil painting. Drawing on the plethora of pop-culture archives available online; his work functions as a diary written in an autodidactic vernacular of paparazzi shots; lost family photos; and screenshots. Buys uses these adrift images to anchor personal experiences; whilst simultaneously aiming to try and provide a kind of buoy to the viewer.
