Eugenie Marais

Marais consistently seeks out new techniques in her work using a range of media including drawing; printmaking; collage and oil painting. Often working in series or with repetition; she employs a muted colour palette to develop dream-like imagery; seeking to evoke feelings of nostalgia; loneliness and serenity. Reflecting on Retrograde; a series of prints produced in collaboration with The Artists' Press; Marais writes; We often stare into the distance with thoughts and emotions about the past; present and future; and this is often accompanied by a meditative sense of deja vu and jamais vu.
