Collection: Dan Halter

(b 1977, South Africa. Lives and works in Cape Town )

Halter's artistic practice is informed by his position as a Zimbabwean currently living in South Africa. “My work deals with my sense of dislocated national identity; human migration and the dark humour of present realities in southern Africa;” says Halter. “The present situation is a backlash; due to a history of oppression that continues to manifest itself today.” Halter's work often exploits the language of craft and curio in an artworld context. He collaborates with other artists using various fabrication techniques. “I engage with history from a contemporary perspective and with the technology of today;” while trying to maintain a narrative element to his work.
