Collection: Anna Liber Lewis

(b 1977, United Kingdom. Lives and works in London)

Each of Lewis' paintings emerges from an encounter. Thematically; she is interested in moments of transition; where change or transformation manifest physically or emotionally through behaviour and body language. This is also closely linked to her preoccupation with female sexuality; and her attempt to challenge the image of women as it has been constructed historically by men. “The paintings shift between what is seen and what is felt;” says Lewis; “They morph between the act of looking and the manifestation of a sensation - be that flirtatious glances; desire or defiance.”
