Molly Kent

(b 1995United Kingdom. Lives and works in Edinburgh)

Kent uses drawing, textiles and installation to act as metaphors that reflect her doubts about our digital era. Her tufted rug works juxtapose colour, text and form and overwhelm the senses in a hands-on physical embodiment of ‘going viral’. She sees parallels between contemporary existence and the dominance of social media and the Internet, and the way her domestic rugs grow, morph and occupy more and more space.

Kent’s drawings enable her to consolidate and work through multiple visual possibilities and formats that act as gestural maps for her large-scale textile works.
