Anouchka Gerard

(b 1998France. Lives and works in London)

Gerard’s practice stems from her interest in architecture and the urban environment; her work often considers the impact of large-scale construction on everyday human and social experience. “My work is intended as a warning,” she says, “a ‘mise en garde’ against the dangers, environmental and psychological, of our species’ expansion and social organisation, and its impact on our ecosystem.”

Working in acrylic and oil paint, Gerard creates texture in her paintings through layering and removing, a process which echoes the density and ever- changing nature of urban life.
