Philip Mentzingen

(b 1976Austria. Lives and works in Vienna)

Most of Mentzingen’s time is spent drawing and painting on loose pieces of paper and canvas; all his paintings begin life on the floor of his studio.

Ultimately, his intention is to provide a counter-balance through his work to modern life’s sense of overstimulation and monotony, while keeping a proportionate sense of humour. He says, “As long as I can remember I have treated my studio as a place where I should strive to be good at three things: creator, operator and snake-oil salesman.”
