Emalie Bingham

(b 1987South Africa. Lives and works in Wadhurst)

For Bingham, drawing provides both refuge and stimulation. This paradox is central to her creative process, which stems equally from her struggle against limitation and her desire to realise her potential. She employs a diverse range of media and an extensive colour palette in her painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, printmaking and installations; however, drawing has always been central to her work.

Of her creative process, she says: “It’s a daily ritual of coming to terms with brokenness, and the outworking of extreme frustration. But it is also an expression of defiance, of passionate desire, and urgent vision.”
